MISSION STATEMENT

"One For The Troops" was formed on the principle that those American men and women who serve to protect our wonderful country should be treated with respect and appreciation. We believe that they should be acknowledged and recognized by every citizen and company by honoring their dedication and commitment to our freedoms that we all enjoy every day. If we all come together and show our individual support for these heroes we can help to make their time in the service a little more comfortable. Please join us in becoming ONE FOR THE TROOPS.

We challenge any small company or large corporation to bless our active military in return by making even the smallest of gestures to make our active military more comfortable by creating an environment of compassion that allows them to realize that they are recognized, respected, appreciated, and one that acknowledges they are making great sacrifices for all of us, including your companies. They give up enough for us, so please change your policies and give back to them, for their sake. Remember where our freedom to own a business in this country comes from. Please do not put a price tag on activating changed policy. What they give for us comes with a much larger price.

It began on December 20, 2006. Four Marines were stranded at an airport in San Francisco. All four Marines had returned to the States to enjoy some long overdue time with their families. Two of them returning from Iraq, and the other two stationed in Japan but returning from other missions over seas. After spending 6 hours in a long line at the airport waiting to find out when they could get the next flight out, which would not be until Christmas eve or Christmas day, due to an airport closure in Denver, they decided to rent a car. After these Marines approached "AVIS", a rental car company in the San Francisco airport, they were told they could not rent a car to them because they were under the age of 25. No exceptions were made. A stranger approached them and offered to rent a car and drive them to their homes, in Colorado.

We can put guns in the hands of our young men and women in the service and trust that they will defend our country, our flag, our lives. We can watch their dedication to the United States of America, and yes that includes each person that lives in this wonderful country. We can watch our young men and women in the service get injured or give up their lives in war as they defend and honor what they believe in, for us. We can watch them do everything possible to make us live life a little safer, a little easier. We know the sacrifices our men and women in the service are making for us. We appreciate everything that they are doing and will always be thankful and grateful.

We would like to help our fine young men and women, with military ID, that are under the age of 25, be allowed to rent a car and arrange travel with ease. "AVIS" has a motto that says "WE TRY HARDER". Well, with the assistance of many patriotic people, we tested AVIS and the sincerity of that motto.

Communications with AVIS began. AVIS did not run from our challenge but rather, with conscientious effort, investigated, clarified and further educated branch locations as to headquarter policy. Bottom line, AVIS DID AND DOES TRY HARDER! Because of the action AVIS took, addressing the concerns submitted by all, our active military will now experience car rental a bit easier at the age of 18+, with military ID and travel orders, and will not be penalized by being required to pay a higher rate with AVIS. Now that is respect, gratitude, appreciation, and patriotic!

Seems education was the key and in this case AVIS took the bull by the horn and tamed that bull, rather than slaying it! As a result, One for the Troops, is now pleased to provide a link to AVIS in our "Supporter links" so that our active military and others can show our deep appreciation for an organization that truly DOES TRY HARDER... AVIS! Next time you need a rental car, just know AVIS listens to its consumers. That is a rare commodity, it seems, in today's world. Congrats and many thanks AVIS! We appreciate you too! So, here's ONE MORE FOR THE TROOPS!!!

We are of the opinion that ALL rental car companies should have specific exceptions in their policies related to car rental for our military personnel under the age of 25, with ID, and without an up charge fee, so they can get to their families with ease. Although AVIS was our first, and successful stop, there are many other car rental companies out there that we will ask for support from as well.

How can you continue to help? You can help by writing us a letter supporting our cause. (See the "Write a letter of support" link) You may also send us an email. If you wouldn't mind please include your name, email address, and the State that you live in. We will be taking every step that we can to get these policies changed at other rental car agencies. Thank you for your support.
